Case Study #3: Organizational Performance--AMA Study

In 2007 the American Management Association produced a survey regarding the nature of high performance organization. This was a comprehensive survey that took into consideration hundreds of companies ranging from Fortune 500 to even small local businesses. The study was designed to identify key factors that produced high performance.

This study outlined five core components:

  • Strategic Approach
  • Customer Approach
  • Processes and Structure
  • Leadership Approach
  • Values and Beliefs

If each one of these elements aligned together, an organization would experience high growth. What they also noted was that each element was determined by one critical factor: the highly skilled worker.

Each company cited for maintaining high performance had comprehensive worker retention rates and recruitment plans. It went beyond effective HR departments—these workers knew what they wanted. And it came out like this:

  • Strong Corporate culture
  • Commitment to ethics and environmental awareness (social issues)
  • Flexibility in policy changes and decision making
  • Encouraging innovation and worker ideology

The CFC Model accounts for each element by adopting various perspectives of science to retain workers. By adopting a specific management practices from Simon Sinek and The Candle Problem in conjunction to the desired social impetus that businesses need to maintain highly skilled workers, ASSET utilizes this study to formulate the ideas behind its model.

A community focused corporation thrives from its social focus for a positive impact and strong social presence, flexibility in research options through effective bootstrapping and revenue streams, and integrity through the legal public accountability of corporations, all optimizing the potential of a company to succeed.
